OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, May 13, 2009 · 10 Our Mission The YMCA of Oakville is a charitable association open to all, dedicated to providing life-long opportunities for health enhancement and personal growth. Y SUMMER CAMP: FULL OF ADVENTURE The YMCA of Oakville has a summer camp program for everyone! Traditional camps offer a wide variety of activities from arts & crafts to sports. Wilderness camps help youths develop awareness and appreciation for the natural world through camping and wilderness trips. Sport camps devote half the day to specific activity interests. Adventure camps visit local attractions and Bronte Creek Provincial Park. Aquatic camps offer swimming and lifesaving certifications. Leadership camps let older campers develop leadership and team skills. "This year camp has a heavy focus on nature and respecting and enjoying our natural environment," says Brandon McGuire, supervisor of child and youth community services with the Y. "This year I want to give kids the license to get dirty, have fun, and create memories that will last a lifetime. We are also going green and will strive to incorporate sustainable measures and low impact experiences into camp." The Y is increasing their efforts to reduce their environmental "footprint" by printing an environmentally friendly camp brochure and sharing ways for campers to protect the environment and reduce their impact on nature. "Registrations are strong this year," adds McGuire. "Out at Valens, the camps are filling up fast so if anyone wants to have the experience of nature and traditional camps they should not leave their registration too long." To register, go to www.ymcaofoakville.com to fill out a registration form, or call 905 -845-3417 for more information. SHARE THE LOVE OF SUMMER CAMP! You can help make summer special for a child in need. By donating to the YMCA of Oakville, you can give a kid the experience of going to a Y summer camp.
