It isn't the first place you may think of visiting for job search help, but your library can be a way to find out much needed information to put you on the right track. If you can't make your way to your local branch, you can connect to the library online at www.opl.on.ca. OPL offers many online resources for job seekers such as Career Cruising, an interactive Canadian career reference guide that provides in-depth profiles of hundreds of careers. Also available are downloadable audio books and e-books specific to Business and Careers. All online resources are free and accessible 24/7 from home when registering with an Oakville Public Library card. To get your free library card, visit your local Oakville Public Library branch today. In the branches, you may check out books relating to all aspects of the job search. The Career kiosk, located on the third floor at Central Branch, has information on agencies that can help you find a job. All branches offer access to printing, software programs such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and free wireless connection. In addition to all these resources, OPL also partners with other agencies to offer workshops and seminars for small business and career help. Business Specialist for the Oakville Public Library, Cathy Burke has noticed a distinct increase in the use of business and career resources and notes another free job seekers workshop is coming up. "We are pleased to partner with The Centre for Skills Development & Training to present our upcoming workshop `Make it your job to find a job: Here's how!' given by a career specialist with The Centre," said Burke. This workshop will cover a variety of skills and attitudes needed when job hunting such as goal setting, persuasion and networking, and self confidence.
