Town staff are moving forward with phase one of the project, which includes developing detailed designs for what the facility will look like and demolishing its existing interior. Council has approved $3.65 million in financing for this part of the project. The Town notes it will continue to work with the community throughout this design process and will conduct further public consultations in the summer on issues of concern to the facility, users and local residents. The approved plan features a sizable arts and culture component in excess of 54,000 square feet of dedicated space for a variety of applied arts and music, including both rehearsal and performance space. "This decision is the culmination of a lot of hard work by staff and residents," said Ward 1 Councillor Alan Johnston. "We're looking forward to watching QE Park take shape, and are excited for the day we open it to residents and Oakville's arts and cultural communities." Town staff are working to accommodate existing QE Park programs at other Town facilities where possible in anticipation of the renovation. The warm pool facility that currently exists at QE Park will be moved to Glen Abbey Recreation Centre. For more information about QE Park, visit www.oakville.ca.
