U17 Gunners reach Dallas Cup quarters Thunder third in indoor The Oakville Gunners under-17 boys were the only Canadian soccer team to reach the quarter-finals at the recent Dallas Cup tournament. Oakville survived a difficult opening-round grouping in order to advance. The Gunners were pooled with the 14th-ranked team in the United States (Texas Solar Academy), the 34th-ranked club in the U.S. (California Santa Clara Sporting) and Orlando Florida FC, with only one team eligible to advance. Oakville opened with a 1-1 tie against Solar Academy, with Alex Biafore netting the locals' goal. The Gunners then blanked Orlando 3-0, with goals coming from Lukas Andrade, Sebastian Novais and Michael Tait. Needing a win in its final round-robin contest to advance, Oakville rallied from a late 1-0 deficit to edge Santa Clara 2-1. C.J. Telford and Kris Karafilov scored for the Gunners, who played much of the second half with two defenders and eight men forward. Oakville's title hopes were ended with a 1-0 loss to Monterrey Mexico, which went on to win the tournament. Other members of the Gunners are Cameron GaleaAndrews, Sasha Radosevic, John Nardozzi, Jeremy Gaylor, Brandon Gregory, Rick Maimonis, Brandon Galea-Andrews, Russel Shaffer, Jonte More, Marco Natale and Marshall Slipp. Phil Ionadi and Paul Marques coach the Gunners, who will open their Ontario Youth Soccer League season May 17 in Markham. The Oakville Thunder under-11 boys' C team recently completed a successful season in the Hershey Indoor Soccer League, finishing third in regular-season play and coming one goal away from reaching the playoff final. Competing against higherranked rep teams, the Thunder scored 47 goals during the regular season. The team edged the Clarkson Comets in the playoffs to advance to the semifinals, where Oakville fell in sudden death overtime to the Dixie Blue Demons. Members of the Thunder are Steven Bollinger, Ryan Haire, Johnny Mastromarco, Patrick Camastra, Aidan Fisher, Aidan McKinney, Marco Pizzolato, Zach Foweather, Harry Dumesich, Dylan Giles, Jony Kearns, Mark Van Hees, Eric Broadfoot, Jaiman Dhindsa, Jay McNeill, Julian Chiovitti, Marcus Sickert and Eric Cronin.
