Married in Haste to Repent at Leisure

Our readers will doubtless remember a notice in the STANDARD, early in January, of a young couple being engaged to be married, and after having secured the license, engaged the minister, and ordered dinner at the Markdale House, SHE changed her mind and married another at the appointed time, (New Year's day). The parties referred to in said notice was Miss Mathewson, of Artemesia, and Mr. Philips, of Osprey, while the third interested person was Mr. Louis N. Thibaudeau, of Artemesia. The couple, however, started housekeeping shortly after, while the disappointed suitor didn't even suicide. No further developments of a serious or sensational character was heard until about two weeks since when matters grew so unsatisfactory and boisterous in the new household, that a hasty and informal separation was made, the unfortunate bride returning to her father's, while her heartless husband left for parts unknown. There are various rumors as to the causes of unhappiness, and who is to blame; but one thing is evident, it should be a warning against hasty marriages. In this Canada of ours where a divorce is next thing to impossible, young people should thoroughly understand each others disposition before embarking on a life voyage in which it is most desirable for happiness to reign supreme throughout.
