Poison scare was false alarm Several North Oakville parks were re-opened Wednesday after a strange white powder found earlier in the day turned out to be nothing more than baking flour. The flour was the focus of great concern after a four-month-old black Labrador Retriever ingested some of the then unknown substance while out for a walk on Nipigon Trail, near River Oaks east of Sixth Line. The dog became sick a short time later at which point its owner rushed it to a veterinary clinic. Police initially reported the dog to be in poor health, but now say it is recovering. In response to this incident, police closed down the Nipigon Trail, as well as an area near the River Oaks Recreation Centre, Taylor Woods Park and Milbank Park where traces of the white powder were also found. All these precautions came to an end later the same evening when the powder was found to be baking flour. Police said a local running group placed the piles of flour on the trail to mark the route of a race they were running. Organizers have confirmed the locations where the flour was used and police note there is no danger to the public. With the reports of two dog poisonings in the Durham Region last week, police are still reminding members of the community to be cautious of any unknown substance they encounter. 5 · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, April 3, 2009 o t-of-T wn Ser vice & Ou rt rpo Ai OAKVILLE UNITED TAXI We Wish You a Safe and Happy Easter Spring into summer.
