OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, April 3, 2009 · 12 Heating up the auction MAGIC FOR SICK KIDS: The third annual Sydney Clark fundraising gala, Do You Believe in Magic?, was Saturday at Rattlesnake Point Golf Club with proceeds going to Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children. Here, Sydney Clark is surrounded by some of Oakville's finest firefighters, from left, Jason McGahey, Christian Limoges, Jody Walker and Kevin Dudek. One of the live auction items was a Firefighters' Dinner that sees the firefighters cook you dinner at your home. When two women got into a bidding war over $5,000, the firefighters said they would do two dinners and raised $10,400 for the cause. Clark was 15 when in the spring of 2005, she was suddenly stricken with Reye's Syndrome, a rare disease that shut down most of her body's systems, put her in a coma and had such profound effects she had to learn to walk and talk all over again. Her mom, Nancy, swears she heard Do You Believe in Magic playing when her daughter regained consciousness and said Happy Mother's Day.
