Oakville speed skaters win 15 provincial medals The Oakville Speed Skating Club enjoyed its largest-ever medal haul at a provincial championship meet, winning 15 medals at the all-Ontario championships in Kitchener-Waterloo earlier this month. Tiago Santos, Joshua Sullivan and Emma Hobson won gold medals in individual races, Hal Malcolm, Sean McAnuff and Samuel Chin-Cheong claimed silvers, and Ryan McAnuff and Zoe O'Neill won bronze. In relay, Hazel Garde, Katie Quesnelle, Zachary Lin, Blake Sullivan, Ryan McAnuff, Sean McAnuff and Chin-Cheong won medals. Anne Marie Gildea, Eli St. James and Nicholas Kothleitner added top-five showings. Kothleitner, a first-year bantam, entered the club's Sub 60 club by finishing his 500-metre race in less than 60 seconds. Eight Oakville skaters represented Ontario at last weekend's national championships in Cambridge. Five members of OAK have been named to the Ontario team that will compete in the Games, scheduled for Aug. 15-29 in Prince Edward Island. Tera Van Bielen, Marni Oldershaw, Julie Calvert, Mack Darragh and Curtis Samuel earned invites to the team. All but Samuel are 15 years old or younger, making their selections even more impressive as the eligible age for swimming at the Canada Games is 18 and under.
