GO riders cry foul over fare increase By Tim Foran METROLAND WEST MEDIA GROUP A Halton commuter's online petition for GO Transit to retract both the fare hike it enacted this past weekend and one last year could set up an interesting political showdown in the Ontario legislature next week. Milton resident Andrew Salmons, who quit taking the GO train to work in Toronto last June due to rising fares and what he deemed poor performance, started the petition last Friday after GO's board of directors passed its 2009-10 operating budget, which included a 25-cent fare hike for adult A 16-year-old Oakville teen, who died 10 days after hitting his head on a paved driveway, never told medical officials he'd been in a fight, hospital records reveal. The records, submitted yesterday in a Milton courtroom as part of the agreed statement of facts at a manslaughter trial, revealed that Drew Hildebrand told the first doctors examining him that he fell while "messing around" with some friends. He said he tripped over somebody's foot and fell backwards on concrete. Justice John Murray told jurors that they should view the information from Hildebrand as being something "he told" doctors and emergency room officials and "not for its truth" when they begin their deliberations next week. They should base their findings on the facts revealed as evidence during the trial, he said. Hildebrand died April 8, 2008, 10 days after he struck the back of his head during a scuffle with a 15-yearold boy outside a house party.
