Perhaps a love story documented in letters, a soldier's diary of events, or newspaper clippings celebrating the homecoming of our heroes? The Oakville Museum at Erchless Estate is searching for First World War letters and related objects for its upcoming June exhibition, Words to End All Wars: Correspondence during the Great War set to open on June 28, 2009. "We're looking to borrow any Oakville correspondence, postcards, letters, diaries, newspaper clippings and telegrams that relate to the 1914-1918 war," said Carolyn Cross, curator at the Oakville Museum at Erchless Estate. "Uniforms, photographs and other military artifacts would also complement our existing collection from the period," said Cross. The exhibition will focus mainly on the writings of the First World War. All loaned objects will be returned to the owners following the exhibition. "We're very excited to involve the community in helping us tell the very human story of Oakville's first participation in a major war," Cross said. June 28, 2009 marks the 95th anniversary of the infamous assassination of an Austrian archduke believed to have triggered the beginning of this war. The museum plans to host an Edwardian Tea with a special guest speaker to accompany a preview of this exciting, emotional and personal exhibition when it opens.
