www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday January 16, 2009 - 7 Bank robbery foiled by uncooperative tellers A would-be bank robber left empty-handed from a local Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) on Tuesday after tellers told him they had no money. Police said the failed bank robbery began shortly after 1:30 p.m. when a man entered the RBC, 309 Hays Blvd., and approached an employee at the reception desk. The man handed the employee a note demanding money and stated he had a weapon. When the employee told the suspect that she had no money, the man told her to approach another employee for the money. When that teller indicated she had no money, the suspect began walking towards another teller, but panicked on the way and ran out of the bank. The suspect was seen leaving in a green Dodge Caravan, which police later recovered and determined was dent. Pregnant woman's car forced onto railroad tracks Halton police have made an arrest in connection with a bizarre hit and run on Saturday near the intersection of Kerr Street and Speers Road. Police said the collision occurred around 6 p.m. when a vehicle being driven by a pregnant woman was knocked off the road and onto nearby railroad tracks by another vehicle. Rather than offer assistance, police said, the two men in this vehicle got out of their car and fled the scene. With the arrival of police, the CN line was shut down at which point the woman was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure. "She has since been released," said Sgt. Brian Carr, Halton police public information officer. A police canine unit was brought to the scene and succeeded in finding the two men from the other vehicle. The passenger was released unconditionally while the driver is facing numerous charges under the Highway Traffic Act.
