Born in Danzig-Langfuhr (now Gdansk, Poland) in 1940, Christel lived a full and vibrant life which included family, travel, part-time studies at McMaster University and a career in fashion retail-management with Robinsons and Comark. Christel had many diverse interests and embraced life: She was as much "at home" in the boardroom as she was going to the opera or being at the cottage. After leaving her job, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling throughout Europe, refinishing antique furniture, gardening, and hiking along the Bruce Trail with her faithful companion Golden Retriever Max (and later Leah). Christel recognized that life was a gift and that each day should be seized and each moment should be savoured. Throughout her life, and right up until the very end, Christel was a determined individual -- demonstrating physical, emotional and spiritual strength. Having touched the lives of more people than she realized, she will continue to be an inspiration to all who knew and loved her. Christel will be sadly missed by her children (Petra and Richard), her granddaughter (Sarah), her son-in-law (Jim), her sister (Inge), her step-father (Hubert), her nieces and nephews (particularly Natalie), cousins (especially Edith Bircken, Gunter and Dieter Schneider), her friends and her neighbours. Special thanks to the people who contributed to Christel's healthcare this past year: Dr. Boyle, Carol Sweeney, Teresa Tomlinson, Tamara Kouxova, Helena Habsburg, Jessy Jaster, Dr. McCann, Dr. Winemaker, Dr. Lim, Dr. Manawadu, Dr. Arnold, Dr. Wright, Dr. Young, Nancy Knox, Trish Haines, Mona LaFleaure, Bo Yang, Nichole Middleton, Jeremy Siemens, Dell Pharmacy (Cecilia MacLellan, Milena Kudus), Marchese Pharmacy (Antonietta Forrester, Diana Baus-Mekli, Leslie Chappell), Barb Strang, Andrea Unger, Brenda Flaherty, Karen Prine, Jodie Steele and Gabriella, Pradeep Kumar, Connie Masys, Alain Grandmont, Carmen Carmazan, Laura Bachmann, Liz Mann and Rob Freeman.
