Although the blaze was quickly extinguished, damage to the home is being estimated at around $75,000. "The actual fire damage itself was contained to the basement area of origin," said Gary Laframboise chief fire prevention officer. "Unfortunately there was more smoke damage as smoke travelled throughout the entire house." No one was injured during the fire. According to Laframboise, the home was not equipped with smoke detectors. As a result, the homeowner was fined. The Oakville Fire Department reminds residents that having a working smoke detector on every level of their homes is the law and, more importantly can mean the difference between life and death if a fire takes place in the middle of the night. Residents should test their smoke detector once a month. Rampen will also highlight one of her own projects, the Joshua Creek Heritage Art Centre, located at 1086 Burnhamthorpe Rd. W. Rampen established the Joshua Creek Heritage Art Centre on 10 acres.
