2 - The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday January 14, 2009 www.oakvillebeaver.com Our Mission The YMCA of Oakville is a charitable association open to all, dedicated to providing life-long opportunities for health enhancement and personal growth. www.ymcaofoakville.com CONSISTENCY YIELDS FITNESS RESULTS At this time of year, many people resolve to start living a healthier lifestyle. Rob Russell of Oakville made that commitment many years ago, and the YMCA of Oakville is now an important part of his fitness regimen. Rob swims four or five days a week, and does CycleFit and weight training about twice a week. A familiar face around the YMCA of Oakville, Rob has been a member for three years. A former marathon runner and triathlete, he was forced to scale back his physical regimen after back surgery. After completing his rehabilitation, he added yoga to his schedule too. "Yoga helps increase my flexibility," he says. Thanks to successful surgery and his consistent exercise routines, he's pain free. "I feel fantastic," he says. Looking ahead, Rob says he doesn't want to "push it," but may start training for a short triathlon. Since he retired from the medical-products business two years ago, Rob has enjoyed making his own schedule, and keeping the Y an integral element of it. "I like the hours at the Y," he says. "I can come at any time of the day, and the classes are scheduled morning, noon and night." Having tried other facilities, Rob is also sold on the cleanliness of the Oakville Y and the knowledgeable and professional staff. "I have a degree in Physical Education, so I can see that the staff know their stuff things like the proper positioning on the bike, for example," he says. "Everyone is friendly here," he adds, "and the overall atmosphere is very conducive to leading a healthy lifestyle." To those looking forward to cultivating a fitter life in the new year, Rob offers this advice: "Be consistent. Making a commitment to a workout partner or a personal trainer can help you to stick to regular workouts. Nothing will change without a commitment. After that, fitness and health become a way of life." 410 Rebecca Street Oakville, ON L6K 1K7 Telephone: 905-845-3417 Facsimile: 905-842-6792 E-mail: customerservice@oakville.ymca.ca Tours available Monday to Friday: 5:30 am to 10:00 pm Saturday: 7:00 am to 6:00 pm Sunday: 8:00 am to 6:00 pm
