At a press conference Thursday morning, the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario set a Feb. 13 date for the province to get back to talks. If that doesn't happen, union spokesman David Clegg said the 73,000 members will take a strike vote. A vote in favour of striking could put teachers on the picket line by the end of March -- just after the March Break. The strike would affect approximately 2,000 members of the Halton chapter of the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario. The teachers have been without a contact since Aug. 31. The federation and the school boards last met for contract talks in December. The teachers turned down a four-year deal in December that would have given them a 12 per cent pay raise over the term of the contract. The union said salary wasn't the issue and demanded the province increase classroom funding to close the gap on what is spent on high school students.
