www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday January 2, 2009 - 3 Pilgrim Wood would become dual-track school RETAIL & WHOLESALE LIGHTING Continued from page 1 Emily Carr, Ecole Forest Trail, Heritage Glen, Pilgrim Wood and West Oak. If Joudrie's recommendation is approved, Pilgrim Wood, which is currently an English track school, would become a dual-track school starting in Sept. 2009. This means that about 240 French immersion students south of Upper Middle Road currently attending Forest Trail French immersion would move and attend Pilgrim Wood French immersion in September 2009. The new dual-track school, called Palermo, would be built just south of the intersection of Bronte Road and Dundas Street West. The opening date would be September 2010. About 150 English students west of Regional Road 25 currently attending Heritage Glen and Captain R. Wilson will move and attend Palermo English track in Sept. 2010. Approximately 120 students attending Forest Trail French immersion will move and attend Palermo French immersion in Sept. 2010. A new boundary has been proposed that diagonally splits the current Forest Trail area to determine which of the two schools French immersion students will attend. The new Palermo school will have a capacity of just over 700 students. There are also two other recommendations that will be put forward along with the main recommendation for Ward 4 Oakville that will be voted on at the Jan. 21 meeting. The first is that the Halton District School Board implement a boundary study if either of the dual track schools in Ward 4 Oakville exceed a 60 per cent threshold for French immersion enrollment. The other recommendation is that the Halton District School Board direct staff to provide a draft Elementary School French Immersion Program Review Process for board consideration by February 2009, with an expected program review completion date of November 2009. Among the strengths outlined by Joudrie for his main recommendation are reducing the over utilization of Forest Trail by as early as September 2009, increasing walkability, increasing equity of access to both English and French programs in south Glen Abbey and Palermo communities, and expecting that fewer than 278 students will be bussed. The recommendation is the second of three options originally proposed in the Director's Report released this winter to address the accommodation situation in Ward 4 Oakville. The two other options were: · two single-track French immersion schools and six single track English schools. · three dual-track schools and five single-track English schools.
