Playing the bookish playwright in Jitters, Robert Ross, Stolz has hashed his own writer within. Yearning to write for the past four years, the new role has initiated Stolz to start writing his own play. He's working on a one-man play about Harry Houdini telling his life story. "It has helped me sort of discover that writer and get into the mood," said Stolz. Moving to Oakville in 2004 from Vancouver, where he got his start on the stage, Stolz loves to be in front of an audience. As he splits his time between being an actor and a professional magician, Stolz tends to often find himself gracing the stage. "(Being on stage is where) I can open up the most, as odd as that sounds," said Stolz. "I just become me. It's just my place." As the cast is feeling comfortable with its production, they have opted to take a couple week Christmas break before the show starts in January. Stern is pleased with how the production has come together and is anticipating a lot of laughs from the audience -- the main signifier of the success of this play, he noted. He is also looking forward to bringing something new to local theatre fans. "There is a great support for the group (in Oakville), but you never want to rest on your laurels and you never want to come back with the same program show after show," he said. "You want to take your audience with you in a different direction and you always want to attract a new audience." Stolz agrees and personally can't wait for the laughs from the audience -- both big and small. "It's an hilarious show," said Stolz, matter-of-factly. "Very farcical in many ways and I think the beauty of this play is that it sort of identifies the vulnerabilities of every actor. Every single character in this show has jitters, but they all express it in their own unique way." Burl-Oak's Jitters is on stage at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts from Thursday to Saturday, Jan. 8 to 10 and Wednesday to Saturday, Jan. 14 to 17.
