It was Dec. 6, 1989 that a gunman confronted 60 engineering students at l'Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal on the last day of the term. Brandishing a rifle, the man separated men from women, told the men to leave and then began a 45-minute shooting rampage. He killed 14 women, injured 13 and killed himself. Memorials are held every year in cities across the country. The vigil in Oakville will include speaker, candle lighting and blessings.
