"Women and girls who have been sexually assaulted may seek medical help as a first response to what has happened," said SAVIS counsellor Nicole Pietsch. "Yet few know where to turn for information on rights, police reporting options and accessing emotional support," said Pietsch. SAVIS provides free, confidential and non-judgmental 24-hour support to all survivors of sexual violence. Services include a 24-hour crisis line, counselling, and accompaniment to hospital, court and police. The emergency room card is meant to link sexual assault survivors at local emergency rooms to immediate support. It was funded by the Ministry of the Attorney General Ontario Victim Services Secretariat. For those who choose not to access support at the hospital, the card lists aftercare contact information. For more information, contact SAVIS at 905-8253622, TTY 905-825-3743, or e-mail nicole@savisofhalton.org. Women's Issues: PMS, Menopause, Osteoporosis, and much more...
