Actually, Jedrzejewski's blocking abilities weren't the biggest factor in Cathedral's 25-22, 25-14, 25-13 win over the Titans in yesterday's (Friday's) Golden Horseshoe Athletic Conference championship game at Trinity. Rather, it was the 17-year-old's power game that the Titans had little answer for, with Jedrzejewski ending point after point with hard kills. "You have got to give him credit," said Titans coach Melissa Olmstead. "He's a beautiful player. We just couldn't shut him down. We tried to adjust, but we couldn't adjust quickly enough." The match couldn't have started off much better for the Titans. Trinity came out fired up, scoring six of the game's first seven points and sending its large crowd of supporters into a frenzy. But the Gaels managed to work their way back into the opening set by answering with a 6-1 run of their own, then took control. Cathedral's first-ever GHAC title After the three-point win in the first set, Cathedral jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the second game, then went on a 7-1 run to build a 17-8 lead. The Gaels coasted from there, and controlled the third set from the beginning as well, winning the school's first-ever GHAC championship. "Our school's over 100 years old. We're making history as we go along," said Jedrzejewski, who plays for the Mountain Athletic Club's under-18 rep team and was a late cut from the provincial squad last season. "Our team always has a really slow start. Once we get our energy going, we're scoring a lot of points." Jedrzejewski said he had been spending time in practice working on his shot, particularly reading the blockers in determining where to hit the ball. The Titans' loss, meanwhile, concluded a breakthrough season that saw them upend perennial powers Georgetown and Oakville Trafalgar as the Halton AAAA champions. "Our goal was the Halton championship, and we met our goal," Olmstead said. "To go to OFSAA would have been icing on the cake. I'm proud of the season we had, and I was really proud of the crowd support we had.
