Boosting How to Pay Off Your Mortgage Butterflies and Brains A year ago Selena Solis, 9, was fighting for life in the wake of a major stroke -- with a 40 per cent chance of survival with major brain damage. Today, Selena has short-term memory loss -- and is appealing to people to support children with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI). The Oakville girl and her mom, Carol, founded Butterflies and Brains -- a charity that will host its first annual silent auction Friday in Burlington. It will be at 6:30 p.m. at Black Bull Pub, 1124 Guelph Line. All proceeds will go to children with ABI. Tickets cost $40 in advance and $50 at the door. There are more than half a million people in Ontario alone living with ABI. An ABI can happen as the result of a traffic accident or a fall off a skateboard, bicycle or trampoline. Selena continues physiotherapy three times a week. She was tutored last summer and it's hoped a brace corrects her limp. "People don't realize once these children are out of rehab it costs parents close to $2,000 a month to continue with proper treatment. This summer it cost me $3,000 a month because I had my daughter tutored," said Carol Solis, Selena's mom. For information, contact www.butterflies-brains.org or call 905-901-7777. c.
