MICHAEL IVANIN / SPECIAL TO THE BEAVER THANKS OAKVILLE: Oakville's Salvation Army food drive held on Saturday, Oct. 18, went a long way to restocking the shelves at the Rebecca Street church's food bank. Here, Aisha King, left, the Salvation Army's community services co-ordinator, is pictured with Kathy MacDonald, co-ordinator for both the Salvation Army's Kettle Drive and food drive. An army of volunteers dropped off empty bags throughout October and returned to area homes on Oct. 18 to pick them up filled with donations. Though not all of Oakville was covered, the Salvation Army is thanking residents who did donate. Town rescinds its decision to sell parks By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Oakville council voted to reverse one of its own decisions Monday night, taking two parkettes off the Town's list of surplus lands. During its June 16 council meeting, the Town put the Heath and Odessa Parkettes on a list of lands that could be sold. The move did not sit well with about 40 local residents who turned out at Monday's council meeting to support a motion that would not only reverse the previous decision, but would take steps to rezone the areas so a similar mistake could not happen again. Some residents noted that they had paid premiums to move into homes near the parkettes while others said that proximity to the parkettes had been a major factor in their decision to move to the area.
