Workshops for parents The Halton District School Board wants to help parents help their kids succeed in the classroom. So, the board's Parent Involvement Committee will host a one-day workshop for parents and community members on Saturday, Oct. 25, at Oakville's White Oaks Secondary School, 1130 Montclair Dr., from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. The day will begin with a presentation by local motivational speaker Carole Bertuzzi Luciani. The topic will be how to be involved in your children's education when you don't have a lot of time. More than 20 workshops are scheduled during the day with topics ranging from Internet safety and homework strategies to combating bullying and collaborative problem-solving. The lunch speaker will be Jane Walmsley, a music teacher at Alexander's Public School in Burlington and former arts co-ordinator for the Halton District School Board. She will speak on the arts in education. Community awareness displays will be staffed during the lunch hour including the Halton Multicultural Council, Pathways, Halton police, Canadian Mental Health Association and the Special Education Advisory Committee.
