www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday October 1, 2008 - 33 Ribeiro has positive attitude this year Elite curlers coming to Oakville Continued from page 32 Mississauga and had also tallied against Milton. "It is (bad) timing because Matt was coming into his own," Coccimiglio said. "He's had a smile on his face since he came to camp this year. He was a little disinterested in hockey last year when we picked him up, but he wanted to be a big part of the team this year. He's been producing and playing great hockey for us." Ribeiro was hurt with five minutes to go in regulation and the Blades ahead 4-0. Mississauga's Daniel Zuiccitti was given a major penalty and game misconduct for boarding on the play, and the referees ended the game early. Guzzo out at least a month Guzzo expects he will be out of action for at least a month after suffering his second concussion in two years. "I'm alright. My head still hurts and I get nauseated every once in a while," said the 18year-old, who doesn't remember anything about the hit that left him unconscious for 1015 seconds. "I'm out for a while. It's not my ankle or anything, it's my head, so you have to be a bit more careful." Guzzo underwent a CAT scan following the hit, and was to have another one this week. He is not permitted to drive or attend his part- time classes at Sheridan College for at least a week. "I'm not even allowed to play PlayStation or anything like that," he said, "because anything moving that fast gives me headaches." Milton defenceman Justin DeVincentis received a minor for checking from behind and a game misconduct for the hit on Guzzo, which took place in the second period. Oakville went on to win the game, 5-3. Goalie O'Brien settling in Coccimiglio was particularly pleased Saturday with the shutout play of Blades netminder Ian O'Brien, considering Oakville had uncharacteristically allowed 21 goals in the first five games of the season. "O'Brien has settled down. We know what he's capable of doing, and he's just starting to show his teammates how good he can be," Coccimiglio said of the goaltender, who made 28 saves Saturday and also earned the win against Milton in relief of Jake Williams. Blake Barbieri, Chris Rocca, Matt Braun, Ryan Murphy, Lindsay Sparks and Sean Teakle had the other Blades' goals during the weekend. Oakville will visit the IceHawks Friday, then is scheduled to host the Brampton Capitals the following night at Joshua's Creek Arenas. Both games will start at 7:30 p.m. Local curling fans will have something to be thankful for later this month. The Oakville Curling Club will welcome some of the country's top men's teams Thanksgiving weekend as it plays host to the 2008 BDO Curling Classic. The BDO Curling Classic, officially sanctioned by the Asham World Curling Tour, is part of the qualifying process for the Canadian Olympic trials in preparation for the 2010 Winter Games. Thirty-two teams will participate in a triple knock-out format, competing for a purse of more than $60,000. Twenty of those rinks will be from the Golden Horseshoe/southern Ontario area. Some of the big-name skips slated to take part are defending Olympic champion Brad Gushue, former Olympic silver medalist Mike Harris, and former World champs Glenn Howard, Wayne Middaugh and Kerry Burtnyk. o Tour Studi 2008 MILTON AREA A Pick up a map at many Milton businesses, our website: www.fasm.ca or at a participating artist's studio.
