The competition will be held on Saturday, Nov. 15 at King's Christian Collegiate in Oakville. It is being presented in three classes: beginner, intermediate and advanced, geared to the grading system of the Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto. All test pieces are available on the Smart Music website, for which IBO has obtained a master license. There will be cash awards in each class, with the overall winner being offered a performance opportunity with Intrada Brass of Oakville during the 2009-2010 season. The adjudicating team will be led by Dr. Gillian McKay, associate professor of music at the University of Toronto. Professional accompanists and rehearsal time will be provided for contestants who need them. "This is a unique opportunity for young brass players in Halton Region to test themselves against serious repertoire and have the benefit of professional adjudication," said Bram Gregson, IBO music director. "There's also a lot to be learned by hearing other young musicians."
