www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday September 26, 2008 - 23 Win Henstock Gallery Thanks to everyone who joined us at the Win Henstock Gallery reception on Saturday, September 20. The reception kicked off a two (2) week fundraising campaign in which proceeds from the sales of paintings will support the Diagnostic Imaging Department at Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. We would like to extend a special thank you to Win & Barry Henstock, Andrea Thompson and the staff of the Win Henstock Gallery for all of their time and effort in planning and executing this fundraiser. For more information on the Win Henstock Gallery please visit their website at www.winhenstockgallery.com Language Line Enhances Communication As our communities become more culturally diverse the need for interpretive services is becoming more essential. Halton Healthcare Services recently extended Language Line Services - a professional over-the-phone interpretation service that has been used successfully at Georgetown Hospital since 2003 - to Milton District Hospital and Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital to help bridge the language barrier between healthcare providers, patients and their families. Language Line provides access to over 170 languages around the clock, 365 days of the year on demand. Using Certified Medical Interpreters who are familiar with medical procedures and terminology, Language Line provides accurate and complete interpretation. This confidential service, which can be easily accessed within minutes with the touch of a button while on the phone, facilitates communication between caregivers and non-English or limited English speaking patients so they can speak to and understand each other clearly and precisely. A patient or their family member can easily arrange to have Language Line Services, an in-person interpreter, a sign language interpreter, or the use of specialized services for the Hearing Impaired as needed at any time, prior to or during their hospital visit at any HHS hospital by asking their caregiver. New Patient Safety Section on HHS Website We have enhanced our website, www.haltonhealthcare.com, with the addition of a new Patient Safety and Quality Care section. This new section includes in-depth information about HHS Patient Safety initiatives, Quality Management and Infection Prevention and Control at our Hospitals. In addition, the new section has also become home to data related to Patient Safety Indicators, including C. difficile rates in our hospitals. Rates of hospital acquired C.difficile infections are the first of eight patient safety indicators that all Ontario hospitals will be required to publicly report. HHS supports open and transparent reporting to the public. In the months ahead HHS will also be reporting on a variety of other patient safety indicators including Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aurous (MRSA) and Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE).
