www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday September 24, 2008 - 41 Nelson no match for Trinity girls Continued from page 40 Christynna Cyrus, Lauren Egglestone, Whitney Gratton, Rebecca Johnston and Claire Sprawson added field goals for the Red Devils in the loss. This is the first season in Vaive's six-year coaching tenure at OT that the senior team has featured all Grade 11 and 12 students, and the Red Devils are expecting big things. "I'm excited," said McManus, 17. "We have to work on working under pressure and I think that's pretty much it. We were giving away passes (against Notre Dame) and if we weren't doing that, I think we could have had them." Titans crush Nelson The Nelson Lords are Burlington's other perennial powerhouse in girls' basketball, MICHAEL IVANIN / OAKVILLE BEAVER but Holy Trinity had no trouble with Nelson Monday. The Titans pounded the Lords 64-30, led by a 16-point effort from Doreen Bonsu. Sam Earnest added 10 and Laura Mooney netted nine for Trinity, which is now 3-0. "I don't know how we ended up winning by so much," Titans co-coach Andrew Saulez said. "(Nelson's) tough and physical, but they just had trouble scoring." Saulez said his club has been tested a couple times this year in league play, including a 14-point win over the Loyola Hawks last week, but has not been pushed to the limit. He expects a tougher game today against OT, but the Titans' biggest challenge this year will likely be a matchup against Notre Dame near the end of the regular season. The Titans got two touchdowns from Ashton Rochester in a 49-0 blanking of the Oakville Trafalgar Red Devils Thursday. Jordan Catterall, Jamie White, Wayne Doyley, Brett Palmer and Denzel John also scored majors for Trinity. Aquinas downed the Abbey Park Eagles 31-6 Friday, led by two touchdowns from Chris Knap. Eric Crepinsek had the other Raiders major, while quarterback Zack Alelulia tossed a TD pass. Alex Kuntz accounted for nearly half the Raiders' points with three field goals, three extra points and a single. Dan Parr reached the end zone for the Eagles, who hurt their own chances with penalties and turnovers. In other Division 1/2 action, the T.A. Blakelock Tigers fell 37-13 to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Loyola Hawks were defeated 34-3 by the Assumption Crusaders. Ollie Leonard and Scott Redfearn scored touchdowns for the Tigers, with receiver Josh Plante setting up one of the majors with a lengthy reception. No details were available from Loyola's game. Competing in Division 3, the White Oaks Wildcats opened the year with an 82 road victory over the Lester B. Pearson Patriots. Harrison Thomas scored the lone touchdown of the game. Oakville's other Division 3 squad, the Iroquois Ridge Trailblazers, lost 27-3 to the Burlington Central Trojans. Devon Hayashida provided Ridge's points with a field goal. The senior season continues tomorrow (Thursday), while the junior season kicks off today (Wednesday). · Coaches are invited to submit game results and details each week to sports@oakvillebeaver.com.
