Lining the road, protesters chanted while carloads of Conservatives arrived at the event. Among the various groups present were representatives of a national grassroots arts movement called the Department of Culture. David Frisch, a Toronto-based actor, recently got involved with the group, which mobilized members to protest at the Conservative rally. "I'm concerned about the two-facedness of the arts cuts, where on one hand they say Protesters may have given Prime Minister Stephen Harper a rude welcome as his campaign bus arrived at the St. Volodymyr Cultural Centre last night, but inside the facility, his supporters treated him like a favourite rock star. While organizers said people of all political persuasions were welcome, the prime minister clearly had few enemies in the room as he took the stage at the centre. Harper's arrival set off a frenzy among the 400 supporters in attendance. Harper was introduced by Halton Conservative candidate Lisa Raitt, who also used the opportunity to voice the pride she felt in running for the Halton riding and to slam her opponent, Liberal MP Garth Turner. "Halton deserves a good MP, one who puts you and your concerns first, but instead, warming Halton's seat in Parliament right now, we've got a guy who likes to blub a lot, likes to call people names and who also attacks the news media when they don't agree with him," said Raitt.
