26 - The Oakville Beaver, Friday August 15, 2008 www.oakvillebeaver.com Thanks for helping Y Swim to the Lake for kids O n Friday, July 25, 33 members of the aquatics staff at the YMCA of Oakville swam the equivalent length of Lake Ontario (311 km or 12,480 lengths of a 25m pool) to raise money for the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign. Following is a thank-you letter from Nancy Nunes, YMCA aquatics supervisor. Dear friends: A big thank you to everyone who made this year's Swim the Lake event such a success -- YMCA of Oakville members, staff, volunteers and, of course, the generous people who pledged us in our effort. The night was filled with such high energy, huge smiles from all our little swimmers and friendly competition among the hard-swimming aquatic staff. The USIC MAKERS" "M inc. Not only will this event impact the lives of many families within our community through the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign, it also was amazing to see the Y aquatics staff come together as one powerful team. The team building experience was breathtaking and wonderful to watch -- definitely a result of everyone's hard work and dedication to the YMCA of Oakville. Special awards for the evening went to Rob Russell as the first YMCA member to complete the Individual Swim Challenge by swimming 85 km in 11 swim sessions. The Fundraising Award went to Michelle Ng for singlehandedly raising $815 in pledges and for being the first staff member to complete the Individual Swim Challenge. The Spirit Awards went to Steve Sergenese, Andrew Kadwell and Carmine Iannone, for an outstanding job motivating staff and members to come out and participate in Swim the Lake. Thank you to all. Together we can build strong kids, strong families and a strong community.
