The Halton Regional Police Service still has spots available for its upcoming Citizen Police Academy. The free program runs from 7-10 p.m. every Tuesday between Sept. 9 and Nov. 25. Each week includes presentations on various aspects of policing including: recruiting, hostage negotiations, homicide investigation and the use of forensic technology, a day in the life of a patrol officer, criminal investigations and drug enforcement, the communications bureau and the use of 9-1-1, public complaints process and internal affairs, the court system, fraud investigation, Crime Stoppers, the Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Bureau (CASA), ethnic diversity in policing, the police training unit and the police budget. The citizens academy began in 2002. Sessions are held in the spring and fall. All classes are held at the Halton Regional Centre, 1151 Bronte Rd., in Oakville. Post Inn Village hosts antique car show Aug. 28 The Post Inn Village will once again host an Antique and Classic Car Show this year. The show will take place Aug. 28 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Post Inn parking lot, 203 Georgian Dr. and will include live entertainment by Go Freddie Go, an Elvis rock and roll show, a barbecue sponsored by the Willow Foundation, awards, '50s and '60s trivia, refreshments, a 50/50 draw, raffle and face painting. Last year, the show attracted more than 300 people and it turned out to be an international one as 15 cars entered from the United States. Like last year, the show will conclude with the Halton Regional Police escorting the antique cars through the community.
