There were tears of joy and disappointment shed by parents as the Halton District School Board unanimously voted to close four schools and build a new school in southeast Oakville at a special meeting held Wednesday night. Linbrook, Chisholm, New Central and Brantwood schools are slated to close by September 2010. In their place, students will attend a new school in Clearview with a JK-8 English stream, or one of two renovated existing schools, including E.J. James Public School, which will have a JK-8 English stream and Maple Grove Public School offering Grade 1-8 French immersion. The new school and renovated schools are expected to be ready for students by September 2010. A new school has been something Clearview residents have wanted for close to 20 years, with members of that community giving and receiving congratulatory hugs in the lobby outside of the boardroom after the decision was made.
