www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday June 28, 2008 - 25 Peewee Stamps still undefeated The Burlington peewee Stampeders, featuring plenty of local talent, enter this weekend as the only undefeated team in South Central Ontario Football League play. Burlington downed the Hamilton Steelers 21-6 in Hamilton in its most recent game. Burlington's stingy defence held Hamilton to just 166 total yards, led by Oakville's Christian Downey, Zsombor Burany and Toluwa Fayemi. Burlington piled up nearly 400 yards of offence on a windy day, with 346 yards on the ground. Oakville's Dylan Tuske ran for 208 yards, while receivers Trevor Reid and Declan Cross, also from Oakville, carried the ball for 83 yards and 17 yards respectively. In its previous game, Tuske rushed for more than 150 yards and averaged better than 10 yards per carry as the Burlington peewee Stampeders trounced the Huronia Stallions 53-0. Tuske ran for three touchdowns and Reid ran for one score and caught four passes for 177 yards and a TD. "Our offensive line continues to play at a level not often seen at peewee ranks," said head coach Michael Ramsay. "And our defence is disciplined and aggressive. The coaching staff has been impressed by the players' commitment to excellence on the practice field, which shows in our play at game time." The Stamps' defence stiffened and made a goal line stand in the first quarter against Huronia, the first time an opponent had pushed inside the 10yard line of the Stamps. Downey, a defensive captain, led the team with six tackles. Oakville's Alex Dragojlov, Matthew Haber and Joshua Philip were also key in helping hold Huronia to just 158 yards of offence. Burlington rolled up 555 offensive yards, including more than 300 in the air. Quarterback Will Finch was near perfect, going 7-8 and throwing for 246 yards and three touchdowns. Eric Morelli threw for 55 yards and a touchdown. 8U Coyotes roll in first tournament Competing in its first tournament of the roller hockey season, the Oakville Coyotes 8-and-under tour team won gold at a competition in Auburn Hills, Michigan, recently. Oakville went 3-1 in the round-robin portion of the tournament, then edged Michigan's Hatchys 4-3 in the final. Christopher Elliot won an NHL All-Star Award as the top goalie in the tournament, while Michael Taciuk won a similar award as the leading point-getter. Other members of the team are Christopher Bassett, Sam Richardson, Cooper Johnson, Liam Kaslik, Cody Labelle, Ryan DeRenzis and Nicholas Hardy.
