SPORTSBRIEFS Tavares was one of 10 players from the Canadian team that won gold at the world junior hockey championships in the Czech Republic earlier this year that were invited to the upcoming national selection camp in Ottawa. Joining Tavares at the July 25-29 camp will be Oakville's Cody Goloubef, who was selected in the second round of last weekend's NHL Entry Draft. Goloubef and Tavares were teammates on Team Ontario at the 2006 World Under-17 Challenge. Ottawa will also be the host for this year's tournament, which begins December 26. won silver in the C-4 500m along with Paul Bryant. Klevinas won a third silver medal, teaming up with Andison to finish second in the C-2 500m. The duo also took bronze in the C-2 1000m. Rublee earned a bronze in the C-1 500m and Burloak Canoe Club member Geoff Clarke was a member of the bronze medallist K-4 1000m crew. Angela Hucles scored the deciding goal in the second minute of extra time. Lang, twice, and Matheson both scored goals for Canada in the tournament. The Canadian squad won all three of its games leading up to the final. In April the U.S. edged Canada in a shootout in the final of the CONCACAF Olympic qualifying tournament in Mexico. Medals for Burloak paddlers Burloak Canoe Club members Mark Klevinas, Jamie Andison and Cory Rublee teamed up with Pierre-Luc Laliberte of Otterburn Park, Que. to win a silver medal in the C-4 1,000-metre at the Ruhr Regatta International in Bochum, Germany last weekend. The regatta was for junior and development team (under-23) competitors.
