The Buzz scored five unanswered goals on its way to an 8-3 victory over the Barrie Tornado Tuesday to clinch first in the Ontario Lacrosse Association junior. B Eastern Conference. That assures Oakville of home-floor advantage until the league final. The Buzz, which finished the season with a record of 17-3, will face the Akwesasne Lightning (9-11) in the best-of-five opening round of the playoffs. The series opens tomorrow (Saturday) at 3 p.m. at the Glen Abbey Recreation Centre and Game 2 goes Sunday at 2 p.m. The series then moves to Akwesasne the following Saturday and Sunday. Akwesasne is the only team with a losing record to make the playoffs, but that doesn't necessarily mean the Lightning will be a pushover. The Buzz edged Akwesasne 8-7 in the only meeting between the teams this season at the end of May. Needing a victory against Barrie to nail down top spot in the Eastern Conference, Oakville took the lead three times in the first period but each time Barrie answered. When Brad Gillies put Oakville back in front with 1:06 to play in the period, it gave Oakville a lead it would never relinquish. The Buzz scored twice in each of the last two periods while Oakville goalie Cam Watts blanked Barrie over the final 45 minutes. That stingy defence should play an important part in any Oakville success in the playoffs. The Buzz allowed the fewest goals in the conference (122). Braden Gallant had two goals and an assist Tuesday while Dylan Gilbert, just 28 seconds into the game, Mark Harper, Gillies, Mark White, Ethan O'Connor and Harry Hristopoulos each had one. CHRIS KORNACKI / SPECIAL TO THE OAKVILLE BEAVER TWENTY-ONE MINUTES: Anthony Tullo, a local actor and martial arts fighter, has developed a workout program -- titled 21 Minutes to Fit -- that he believes produces results in a short amount of time. Actor discovers quicker way to get fit By Herb Garbutt OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Anthony Tullo was spending two hours a day working out and not getting the results he wanted. He knew there had to be a better way. The 38-year-old had been involved in Brazillian jiu-jitsu since he was 25, winning a bronze at the worlds in 2003 and a national title in 2004 in his division. It was that involvement in the sport that brought him to mixed martial arts coach Eric Wong, who showed him that, indeed, training could be done differently. It led Tullo to create his own program, 21 Minutes to Fit. "When I created 21 Minutes to Fit, I learned what I can do in a short time," he said. "I wasn't getting the gains I wanted (with longer workouts) and it's something I can sustain and get in terrific shape." Better still, because it didn't take as long, it can fit into just about anyone's day, he said.
