2- The Oakville Beaver, Friday June 27, 2008 www.oakvillebeaver.com Prinicpal left lasting impression on her students Continued from page 1 Gordon thanked her students. As bagpipes had played the day Post Corners was opened seven years ago, hearing them in this context was especially moving for Gordon, who could be seen choking back tears as she entered the school. "That was incredibly special to be able to come through the school on my last walk through the school with those bagpipes playing," she said. Inside the school the great sendoff continued with students lining the halls all the way to the school's gymnasium where the assembly soon began. Against the backdrop of a huge banner that read Celebrating Mrs. Gordon, every grade in the school took the opportunity to say goodbye and put on a show for their beloved principal. The Kindergarten students sang a special version of Skinnamarinky Dinky Dink Skinnamarinky Doo, I Love You (Mrs. Gordon) while the Grade 1 students sang an improvised version of The Sound of Music's So Long, Farewell. A student from the school's English Language Learners program thanked Gordon for all her support in both English and Korean, while other students shared their memories of things Gordon had done to show her students she cared. You are my second family, all of you, and you always will be. I will take you all away with me in my heart forever and always." Gordon's retirement brings to an end a 37-year career in the education sector during which she served as both a teacher and administrator. Teaching was not the life Gordon originally saw for herself noting that she went to teacher's college just for the sake of doing something. In the end, however, Gordon fell in love with teaching and never looked back. Even in retirement Gordon still intends to continue developing her educational experience by working part-time for Brock University. As for why she's retiring now Gordon noted that it is simply time. "I've been in this profession for a very long time and I couldn't imagine moving to another building after this one," she said. "This has truly been my family for the past seven years. This is when I have to go." Gordon intends to spend her retirement visiting with her family, enjoying her cottage and traveling. A trip to Egypt is already lined up for September. Gordon's last day at Post Corners will be on Thursday with Jane Lewis of Georgetown's Pineview Public School stepping in as the new principal.
