32 - The Oakville Beaver, Friday June 27, 2008 www.oakvillebeaver.com It's a `Sizzling Celebration' as The Firehall commemorates eight years of success! One of Oakville's favourite eateries, The Firehall, is regarded as a landmark restaurant in Bronte. Securing its prime Bronte Rd. and Lakeshore location, this `cool bar and hot grill' has been witness to the changes that have passed through the Village over recent years. From the town's small beginnings to its current thriving commercial and developmental success, The Firehall stays true to its foundation...and for that we have to thank renowned restaurateur, Doug Greco. Somewhat of a celebrity in the culture of cuisine, Greco is one of Bronte's own. Born and raised on East Street, Doug has lived and worked in Bronte his entire life in the restaurant business. Opportunity knocked, when 8 years ago longtime friend Jim Mackenzie introduced Doug to David Bowker and Robert Lush and a partnership was born. Says Greco, "We wanted to create a family friendly restaurant with the focus on great food and service and the `Firehall concept' lends itself kindly to both kids and parents." The key to any restaurant's success is the food. Combine that with a creative, friendly ambiance, innovative menu and unmatched service ... and you have a hit. Hence you have The Firehall. "Our emphasis has always been on the quality of food presentation and service," says Doug. "We have a beautiful bar in the centre of the restaurant, but still the focus is the food." The restaurant is filled to capacity during all sporting events, since the Firehall boasts more than 18 TV's, but an enforced in-house drinking policy of age 21 ensures wholesome good fun for friends and family. "There is something for everyone," says Greco. Notorious for their `biggest and best' wings, the menu is unsurpassed in originality and options. Awarded in every category, The Firehall remains a constant in the `Oakville Beavers Readers Choice Awards'. Locals refer to theme nights as one does their favourite TV program. `It's Wednesday, lets meet for beer and burger night'. Or, `too good to be true' Tuesdays, when people line up from 4 10 to partake in their 2-for-1 Wings special! Enjoying a deep affiliation with firefighters, these `special customers' persistently boost The Firehall's décor in memorabilia. "Since The Firehall's inception, we have offered a kids promotion that when you purchase a fire hat your child eats free from the kids menu any Monday night. The profits from these sales go directly to help support our local fire departments and the charities which they support." To date, The Firehall has sold over 10,000 hats! Though many a customer drive the distance, The Firehall is locally driven. A meeting place for young and old alike, teenagers find it a safe place to have fun, great affordable food and be treated with respect. Neighbours, friends and family gather, as do a steady stream of our illustrious Oakville Firefighters. Serving the community he loves, Doug says, "We have seen kids grow and lives change in 8 years." Proud of his phenomenal staff and customers alike, we in turn are equally proud of The Firehall. Happy Anniversary!!!
