To help celebrate RBC's national Community Week in Oakville, which ran from June 5 to today (Saturday), RBC is donating $10,000 to Home Suite Hope. This donation will assist in providing innovative affordable accommodation to those in need. Oakville residents are invited to attend the community celebrations that include a free Lick's barbecue, face painting and balloon sculptures, golf swing analysis by CPGA professionals, mini putting, photo opportunity with the RBC Canadian Open Championship Trophy and the chance to win passes to see the RBC Canadian Open on July 21-27, 2008. Residents can find the fun at RBC Insurance Branch and adjacent RBC Royal Bank Branch at 361 Cornwall Rd. (adjacent to WholeFoods Plaza). The opening ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. while the donation and ribbon cutting will quickly follow at 11:15 a.m. Family events and golf activities run 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Ice Cream Meet and Greet As a way to enjoy summer and address any public questions or concerns, Ward 1 Councillors Alan Johnston and Ralph Robinson invite Oakville residents to Ward One's fifth annual summer Ice Cream Meet and Greet at the Bronte Butterfly Gazebo. Oakville Fire Chief Richard Boyes and Halton Regional Police Chief Gary Crowell will also be dropping by. The event is set for today (Saturday) from 2-4 p.m. at the Bronte Butterfly Foundation Gazebo (Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park, Ontario Street). Kids can check out a fire truck, get their faces painted and get a free balloon. Numerous community groups will also be on hand including: Bronte Historical Society, Bronte Village BIA, Bronte Village Residents' Association, GreenTrans, Ground Breakers Oakville, Halton Regional Waste Management, Halton Multicultural Council, Lakeshore Woods Residents' Association, Oakvillegreen, Oakville Harbours Advisory Committee, Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, and information on the new pesticide bylaw. Free water, pop, chips and ice cream will be provided and the Butterfly Ice Cream Café will be scooping out this year's ice cream.
