Mayor Rob Burton and his wife, Wendy, were invited and the group received a commemorative plaque from the Town of Oakville that now hangs in the Opportunity shop. The group's annual bridge luncheon fundraiser followed at St. Cuthbert's Anglican Church. Proceeds this year are going to Kerr Street Ministries (KSM). A garden tea will follow in June at which time an anniversary cake will be served up. While Tyre remembers the old days, entertaining younger members with her stories and scrapbooks of news clippings -- Barbara Amiel once wrote about the group before marrying Conrad Black -- it is working at the shop that provides the camaraderie today. "People don't give us stuff at the right season," said Marlene Slater co-convener of the shop with Helen Trillia, as she takes a break from ironing donations soon to be hung upstairs in the shop.
