www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday May 10, 2008 - 3 SHARING THE SPIRIT 2008 Halton Catholic District School Board honours Oakville students In April, the Halton Catholic District School Board held its 20th annual Sharing the Spirit Student Award of Excellence ceremony, a special evening that recognized one student from each of the board's schools. A special "Sharing The Spirit" gold medallion and certificate were presented to each student. The students were nominated by their principal for demonstrating outstanding qualities in the following areas: Catholic leadership, family commitment, involvement in school affairs, involvement in community activities and dedication to a difficult situation or task. Oakville Students honoured in the Halton District School Board's Student Excellence Awards will follow next week. · Tyler Batchelor -- Holy Family School: Tyler perseveres to see difficult tasks through to completion and is a role model to her peers. Her Christian attitude towards others is evidenced through her involvement in extracurricular activities and in all her interactions with others. · Conor Lewis -- Mother Teresa School: Conor has demonstrated positive leadership abilities through his active involvement in the school's student council. He is committed to maintaining a high level of achievement in all academic areas and has gained the respect of his peers and teachers alike through his kind and sincere ways. · Christina Heytens -- Our Lady of Peace School: Christina consistently achieves a high degree of academic excellence and realizes her social responsibility to make the Gospel values relevant today. She is actively involved in many extracurricular activities at home, at church and at school, while demonstrating outstanding Catholic leadership qualities. · Cecilia Perri -- Pope John Paul II School: Cecilia is a joyful, cooperative, compassionate and reverent student, who consistently puts others before herself. She encourages others with her positive attitude, has a wonderful rapport with staff and students and volunteers with many activities within the school community. · Caelan Shakespeare -- St. Andrew School: Caelan is someone who exemplifies Catholic values and Christian leadership in his school community. He possesses a quiet confidence and has a generous disposition towards others, while fostering a profound atmosphere of fellowship, nurturing others spiritually, academically and socially. · Paul Jung -- St. Bernadette School: Paul demonstrates true Catholic leadership qualities through his commitment to St. Bernadette School as a member of the student council, and a senior boys' basketball team player, but most significantly through interested in person, family, society and global issues, and she has a sense of wonder at human life. · Hannah Thommy -- St. Ignatius of Loyola Secondary School: Hannah is a Grade 12 student who, with her ever-present smile and optimistic outlook, has contributed to the spirit and the life of the school. She demonstrates Catholic leadership qualities in her day-to-day responsibilities and lives her faith in the way in which she deals with fellow students, staff and the community at large. As a prefect, she is a great representative of the school community by assisting at school events and helping out wherever there is a need. If a volunteer is needed for any reason, she consistently rises to the challenge and can always be counted on to help with a willing spirit, while at the same time maintaining an excellent academic standing. · Veronica Murray -- St. James School: Veronica is an incredibly patient individual who is supportive of all around her. She is kind and caring to her fellow students and incredibly outgoing. She works diligently in her school assignments and is always willing to give her fellow students or staff a helping hand. She exemplifies all that embodies servant leadership. · Rebecca Diana -- St. Joan of Arc School: Rebecca consistently demonstrates exemplary Catholic values while at school and in our community, along with a deep sense of personal integrity, justice and compassion for others. She is a well-mannered, co-operative and conscientious student, who is admired and respected by both students and teaching staff. · Emma Mezgec -- St. John School: Emma is a dedicated and conscientious student who strives for excellence both academically and in her extra-curricular activities. She involves herself in school initiatives with enthusiasm, dedication and leadership and consistently demonstrates consideration and compassion towards others. · Julia Saturno -- St. Marguerite d'Youville School: Julia exemplifies Catholic leadership qualities in her words and through her actions routinely with all members of the school community. Throughout the year, she has demonstrated the Gospel values and a positive commitment to school and community through her enthusiastic leadership and participation in the school choir, the yearbook committee, as an altar server and as a volunteer and co-ordinator of a school-wide fundraiser for the local humane society. Julia is developing strong Catholic values as she willingly shares her talents and gifts.
