Pet Visits Art Society holding annual auction Oakville Art Society is holding its 42nd Annual Art Auction on May 24 at Oakville Galleries at Centennial Square, 120 Navy St. As a volunteer organization, the Oakville Art Society is completely self-sustaining and largely independent of federal, provincial or municipal funding. Operating two large studios, a gallery shop and conducting ongoing educational programs, the society relies solely on the efforts of its membership to provide the necessary operational funding. The annual art auction is one of its major fundraisers. The auction features original works of art such as paintings, sculpture, pottery and wood carvings by artists and artisans from across Ontario. The viewing times of the exhibit are May 16 to 23 during library hours at 120 Navy St. Admission is free. The doors open on May 24 at 6:30 p.m., with the auction starting at 7:30 p.m. A silent auction is also taking place at the event, which features smaller works done by live auction participants. Admission to the live auction costs $20 and tickets are available at the door or at the Oakville Art Society, 560 Bronte Rd. For information, call the Oakville Art Society at 905-8275711.
