The coffee conglomerate has adopted Wyecroft between Dorval Drive and Kerr Street and committed to cleaning the road twice a year. In the first scheduled cleanup, about 200 employees from nine departments competed against each other outside Tim Hortons Headquarters for 20 minutes. The department with the most amount of garbage won a pizza party and took home a trophy--four tiers of recycled cans topped with a small plastic seagull. "We are doing our part, what we can, to keep the area around the head office clean. We'd like to one day have no litter to pick up. Wouldn't that be the best?" said Greta Najcler, Tim Hortons' manager of environmental affairs. This year doesn't mark the first time Tim Hortons employees have cleaned up Wyecroft Road. They have been doing it for three years for their annual corporate cleanup, where all eight regional offices across Canada help clear the garbage in their communities at the same time. "On behalf of the mayor and members of council, I would like to thank you so very much for your initiative and you're RIZIERO VERTOLLI / OAKVILLE BEAVER ADOPTED: Yvonne Montes of Tim Hortons takes part as that corporation recently joined Oakville's Adopt-a-Road program. dedication into making our town the most livable town in Canada," said Ward 2 Councillor Cathy Duddeck. "What you are doing today is yet another demonstration of Tim Hortons as a great community sponsor." Tim Hortons adopted Wyecroft Road after the Town suggested the idea. The corporation has joined the Adopt-a-Road program, which initiated in 2001, joining a list of sponsors that include, St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School and Oakville Pathfinders. Oakville provides the sponsor with gloves and equipment and puts up a sign on the adopted road, which in this case reads, "Thank you to our Adopt-a-Road partner Tim Hortons." "Tim Hortons has stepped up to the plate in adopting Wyecroft Road. Litter control is an issue, we try our best to keep Oakville beautiful, but we can't do it ourselves we need community to help, businesses to help and this is a step in the right direction," said Dan Cozzi, Oakville's director of road and rorks operations. After 20 minutes of picking up litter, Tim Hortons employees returned to headquarters to declare a winner and enjoy the sandwiches and cookies provided. The team with the most garbage was the construction and design department, taking home the humble trophy. "It's a nice social activity to bring the departments together, get everyone focused in a common activity and common goal," said Najcler. Think Green. Breathe Easy.
