E., Burlington. Teacher/performers from Oakville to Ancaster will present a program of music including works such as Gabriel's Oboe arranged for flute and piano, Meditation from Thais for violin, Chopin's virtuosic piano work Ballade in d minor, George Gershwin's Porgy DEREK WOOLLAM / OAKVILLE BEAVER and Bess excerpts for violin and piano, and much more. Performers include Andrea Battista (Burlington), Heather Dunham (Dundas), Robert Miskey (Oakville), Catherine Richardson (Burlington), Gloria Saarinen (Burlington), Olga Tcherniak (Ancaster) and Arkady Yankivar (Toronto guest artist). Genius of Bach centre stage at St. Jude's St. Jude's Celebration of the Arts presents The Genius of Bach with an ensemble of performers to bring the season to a close on Sunday, May 4 at 7 p.m. at St. Jude's Anglican Church, 160 William St. The concert will feature the St. Jude's and Mississauga Children's Choir, special guest soloists and a 17-piece chamber orchestra along with a horn fanfare from the St. Jude's bell tower during the interval. Learn an instrument, fight breast cancer Thinking about music lessons? Why not learn an instrument to help the fight against breast cancer? The Academy of Music in Oakville will host its first annual Music Lessons for Breast Cancer on Sunday, June 8 from noon-6 p.m. The teachers will donate their time to teach piano, guitar, drums, violin and voice. There will be live performances from the staff, as well as the Oakville Celtic Fiddle Club. The lessons are available to anyone living in Oakville. The cost is $23 per half-hour private class. Proceeds will go towards sponsoring a team in the CIBC Run for the Cure on Oct. 5. Space is limited, so lessons need to be booked in advance. A fundraising goal of $2,000 has been set.
