The purpose of the Study is to address various issues including, but not limited to: Existing and future travel demand, land servicing needs, pedestrian, cycling and transit facilities, operational and infrastructure deficiencies, approved and proposed changes in land use In developing a preferred design, consideration will be given to technical requirements of the Town, needs/concerns of the local community, as well as local environmental, social and economic constraints. The study is expected to be complete by the end of 2008. In accordance with the planning process for Schedule "C" projects under the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment, October 2000, as Amended in 2007, this Public Information Centre (PIC) is being held to present and obtain comments on the problem statement and broad level planning solutions. Interested members of the public, local business community and agencies are encouraged to attend. Information pertaining to the Study will be on display and members of the project team on hand to discuss any issues/concerns you may have. Following the PIC, the Preferred Planning Solution will be confirmed based on comments received from the public, local business community, government agencies, municipal staff and the consultant design team. A second PIC will be held in the near future to present and obtain comments on a recommended design concept for the subject portion of Speers Road. The Town of Oakville, through their consultant Philips Engineering, has recommended a preferred alternative for the rehabilitation and stabilization of Falgarwood Creek from the upstream limit of the Morrison-Wedgewood Diversion Channel to Gainsborough Drive. This Class Environmental Assessment has been undertaken to develop, evaluate and recommend preferred alternatives for the stabilization and rehabilitation of the creek channel and banks, along with possible flood/flow control improvements along Falgarwood Creek. The Study is being carried out in accordance with the planning and design process for `Schedule B' projects as outlined in the Municipal Engineers Association Municipal Class Environmental Assessment document (October 2000, as amended in 2007). The Class EA process includes public/external agency consultation, and an evaluation of alternative solutions and alternative design concepts. NOTICE OF PERMANENT QEW RAMP CLOSURE Westbound QEW Exit Ramp to the South Service Road Starting the week of April 21, 2008 To facilitate improvements to the QEW, the existing South Service Road exit ramp and overpass from the westbound QEW (west of Bronte Road) will be permanently closed commencing the week of April 21, 2008. The ramp overpass structure is tentatively scheduled to be demolished in early fall of this year. The removal of the exit ramp will permit highway widening and traffic detours to continue into the next stages of construction which includes the rehabilitation of the existing Bronte Creek bridge structure. The Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) is undertaking highway expansion work to provide High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes on the QEW through Oakville between Burloak Drive and Trafalgar Road.
