Joined in their downtown Oakville demonstration by local environmental groups Oakvillegreen and the Oakville Sustainability Initiative (OSI), the Oakville Green Party is calling on all Oakville residents to take part in the global phenomenon that will see cities around the world, from Sydney to Tel Aviv, Copenhagen to Manila, turn out their lights Saturday from 8-9 p.m. The symbolic gesture is intended to promote awareness of global warming and spur governments across the planet to work harder in their efforts to counter it. The march will begin at 12:30 p.m. with words from Oakville Green Party Federal candidate Blake Poland as well as from Oakvillegreen and the OSI. With the blowing of a horn, the march will leave its starting point at Oakville Towne Square, located at Lakeshore Road and George Street, and proceed west along Lakeshore Road, north on Kerr Street, east on Rebecca Street, along Navy Street to Allan Street and back to Lakeshore Road and the Oakville Towne Square.
