New venue for Stamitz vs. Stamitz Oakville Chamber Ensemble concert The Oakville Chamber Ensemble's Stamitz vs. Stamitz concert will be changing venues. The concert, slated for Saturday, at 7:30 p.m., will now be held at Trafalgar Presbyterian Church of Litchfield Road. The orchestra of the Oakville Chamber Ensemble will present a program of string music by Johann and Carl Stamitz. The concert features Three Manheim Symphonies by Johann Stamitz and two orchestral quartets by Carl Stamitz. The Stamitz family provides a musical link from the baroque of Bach, Handel and Vivaldi to the classical era of Mozart and Haydn. By contrasting the senior Stamitz with the junior Stamitz, one can hear how, with a span of a few years, music compositions have changed and the forms have expanded. The ensemble offers these works in a setting that reflects the intent of composers: a small group of musicians playing together with verve, passion, energy, tenderness and great enthusiasm. Music that's Sassy and Brassy. Providing a lot of the swing and the sass will be jazz trumpeter Paul Stevenson, star of Jeans `n' Classics with Orchestra London Canada. Stevenson has been described as having the power and range of Canada's own Maynard Ferguson and the cool of Miles Davis. "Paul brings a lot of energy and fun to his performances," says IBO music director Bram Gregson. "Although we've rehearsed with Paul, we know that almost anything can happen once he gets on stage." Stevenson will demonstrate both sides of his musical personality with songs like Bridge Over Troubled Water in the Maynard Ferguson arrangement, and Misty, recalling Miles Davis on flügelhorn. The band will re-create the sounds and music of the likes of Billy May, Harry James, Count Basie, the Dorseys and Maynard Ferguson. There will also be examples of ragtime and gospel.
