16 - The Oakville Beaver, Friday March 7, 2008 www.oakvillebeaver.com Cancer Society needs volunteers sure sign of spring are daffodils, which signal the beginning of the Canadian Cancer Society's annual Daffodil Month fundraising campaign. The Canadian Cancer Society is still desperately looking for volunteers to help with the Daffodil Month campaigns -- Daffodil Days and the Residential Canvass. Take part in the Daffodil Days campaign by signing up to sell the blooms at one of the many locations in town. Daffodil Days run from Thursday, March 27 to Sunday, March 30. Bunches of daffodils will be available for $6 each or two for $10. Volunteers will be selling daf- A fodils at grocery stores, LCBO stores and malls. Call the Oakville Unit at 905-845-5231 to volunteer. Throughout the entire month of April, hundreds of Canadian Cancer Society volunteers will be knocking on doors across town, collecting money for the Society. The Oakville Unit is in urgent need for volunteers to help out. Gather a group of friends or family members and host a neighbourhood "blitz" night. Choose one night during April and canvass a local neighbourhood in teams of two. Each route consists of 20-30 houses. Afterwards, host a hot chocolate party to celebrate your European Engineering Combined With Traditional Workmanship "Building on the Brightest Ideas Around Glass" 905.849.0266 Annual success. It only takes a few hours, but it makes a huge difference. The Residential Canvass is also a great way to honour a loved one. Dedicate your canvass night to someone battling cancer or who has lost their life to the disease. "Both of our campaigns, Daffodil Days and the Residential Canvass, are such important fundraisers in our community," says Lisa Moffatt, Fundraising Co-ordinator of the Oakville Unit. Moffatt continues, "It's the enthusiastic, warm-hearted volunteers that make these campaigns such a tremendous success each year. We can't do it without them." Student volunteers are also encouraged to take part in the campaigns. "Our Daffodil Month activities are a great way for students to complete community service hours," says Moffatt. In addition to Daffodil Days and the Residential canvass, students also have the chance to participate in the Residential Envelope Drop Campaign. Envelope drops involve students distributing donation envelopes to the mailboxes of homes in Oakville where there are no canvassers scheduled for the spring campaign. Interested students can attend a training session at the Oakville Unit (635 Fourth Line, Unit 51) on Tuesday, March 18 or Wednesday, March 19 from 4-5 p.m. Since the first Daffodil Month campaign more than 50 years ago, people in the Oakville community have helped the Canadian Cancer Society fund lifesaving cancer research, provide up-todate and reliable information about cancer to the public and deliver community support services. For more information on the campaigns or to volunteer, call the Oakville Unit at 905-845-5231. -- Submitted by the Canadian Cancer Society, Oakville Unit $ 10 MILLION TREADMILLS ELLIPTICALS Bremshey Orbit Trail SALE PRICE $47999 our reg. price $79999 BLOWOUT SALE!
