Vol. 47 No. 28 Fed up GO Eyeing the competition commuter has plenty of company Oakville woman's petition has nearly 8,000 signatures By Kim Arnott SPECIAL TO THE BEAVER An Oakville commuter says she is both "amazed and overwhelmed" by the response she has received to an online petition demanding changes at GO Transit. "I knew I was frustrated," says Patricia Eales. "I knew the people who take the 7:28 train (out of Bronte) were frustrated. "But this just reinforces that there are lots of other people who are frustrated too nearly 8,000 people." By midday Tuesday, 7,938 people had added their names to the petition, found online at www.ipetitions.com/petition/go_on_time. Eales launched the petition last month, in attempt to call attention to problems with delayed, cancelled and overcrowded trains. She is asking GO to provide passengers with a 50 per cent rebate on fares for trips that arrive more than 20 minutes late at their destination. Eales also wants GO to provide better notification about cancelled or delayed service, and wants to see a planned fare increase delayed until service improvements are made. Effective March 15, GO is raising its rates. A single-ride ticket from OAKVILLE DODGE CHRYSLER NEW FACILITY! NEW OWNERSHIP! NEW ATTITUDE! This "outpouring of support," says St. Hilda's parishioner Paula Valentine, came two days after a judge gave temporary control of the local church, along with St. George's in Lowville, to dissident parishioners. "We had a lot of people that have come back to show support, which is wonderful," said Valentine, who added the 144 people to attend Sunday's service "were all very joyful, and very relieved."
