Continued from page 29 of the club owners. "Some of the clubs we played lost their liquor licences because we just stuffed the clubs, but, unfortunately, a lot of our fans were underage," said Lombard. "We were sort of the flavour of the month for 18 months in a row and then as all bands do, we imploded and went our separate ways." During their hiatus, Lombard and the band's singer Robert Craymer stayed together forming another band called Big Big Time before Craymer went on to make high-end, environmentally-sound furniture in Los Angeles, serving such clients as Madonna, Sandra Oh and Leonardo DiCaprio. The band's bassist Robert Disher and Logan went on to achieve success in the software industry, while Lombard played with many other bands over the years and eventually got into script writing. After 25 years with no experience in "It's like phoning up an old girlfriend. She may still hate you or she may be willing to go out for coffee with you. So I called the guys up and the next thing I knew we were all in the same room together." Kim Lombard Trixie Goes Hollywood Vagina Monologues benefit Feb. 14-15 University of Toronto at Mississauga (UTM) is gearing up for its second annual V-Day production of Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues. The shows will run Thursday, Feb. 14 and Friday, Feb. 15 at the Mississauga campus, and are directed by former Oakville resident and Queen Elizabeth Park graduate, Lauren Cullen. The cast boasts other Oakville connections, including Pare Ghaffari, who will perform `A six-year-old girl was asked,' and My-anh Tran, performing `The Flood.' Both women attend joint programs at Sheridan's Oakville campus. Oakville-based Circus Chocolates is also throwing its support behind the show by donating chocolates to be sold on the night of each performance. The international V-Day campaign is a global movement to stop violence against women and girls, a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations. For more information, visit www.vday.org. The performances run Feb. 14 and 15 at the University of Toronto at Mississauga (UTM) Campus, in the CCIT building, Room 1080. The doors open at 7:30, and the show begins at 8. The event will feature Circus Chocolates for sale, raffle tickets and more. Poster versions of original works by local female artists will be for sale, many of whom graduated from Sheridan College. Tickets cost $10, and can be reserved in advance by e-mailing rebecca@vsquaredv.com. Tickets can also be purchased at the door, pending availability. music matching the feeling he got playing with Trixie Goes Hollywood, Lombard made a call to his bandmates to see if they were up for a little reunion. "It's like phoning up an old girlfriend. She may still hate you or she may be willing to go out for coffee with you. So I called the guys up and the next thing I knew we were all in the same room together," said Lombard "That's when we came up with the Leaf Song." While the song has yet to turn the Leafs' season around, the band remains hopeful and maintains that given recent circumstance, the team is not entirely to blame for its poor performance. "Will (Cliff) Fletcher do any better? I'm not sure. John Ferguson did a great job, but unfortunately there were some major injuries. Who could have known that Jason Blake would get cancer? Who would have thought that (Bryan) McCabe would go down for so long, (Vesa) Toskala was ill for a while," said Lombard. "Any team that loses their best defenceman and their No. 1 goalie is going to have problems. People seem to forget that in the first 20 games of the season the Leafs were playing okay and they were the number one offense in the league." As the Leaf Song continues to generate interest, Trixie Goes Hollywood is beginning a tour it hopes will get people just as excited about Spread the Net, a malaria-fighting charity championed by comedian Rick Mercer and Liberal MP Belinda Stronach. "I read a stat, and I thought I was reading it wrong, that said 3,000 African children die of malaria every day. For $10 you can buy a mosquito net with insecticide on it that will protect a child," said Lombard. "We just think Spread the Net is a really good cause. How sad is that to lose a child to something that is so simple to cure and so simple to fix?" In support of Spread the Net, Trixie Goes Hollywood is playing three venues from Feb. 14-16 at which money for the Spread the Net will be collected. "We may make $500, we may make $2,000, whatever we can raise, it's worth it because $10 bucks saves a kid," said Lombard. For show times and locations visit www.trixiegoeshollywood.com. Think Green.
