Trixie Goes Hollywood, the self-proclaimed 187th greatest band in the world, is back, and this time it has returned through a medium that was not even around during its heyday to cheer on everyone's favourite punching bag, the Toronto Maple Leafs. "We all just got together and Al (Logan, guitar player) had all this new recording equipment and said we should record something, but nobody had any new material," said Kim Lombard, the band's drummer, who resides in Oakville. "We started talking about the Toronto Maples Leafs and how everybody is kicking them while they're down and I said, `Instead of kicking them, why don't we write a song that inspires people, inspires the fans and inspires the team." The result was the Leaf Song, a oneminute-and-45-second sonic assault that proudly proclaims the Leafs the centre of the universe. As Logan read the manuals to figure out how to work his new recording equipment, DEREK WOOLLAM / OAKVILLE BEAVER TRIXIE GOES MAPLE LEAFS: Trixie Goes Hollywood band members (l-r) Robert Disher, Al Logan and Kim Lombard take a break from recording to play some table-top hockey at Studio Jam in Burlington. The `80s band recently produced the Leaf Song for YouTube to inspire Leafs Nation. the song was recorded and later placed on YouTube with a game played on a 35-yearold table hockey board serving as the video's only imagery. "It was so funny because about 15 minutes into videotaping we lost the puck. That's why it looks so cheesey," said Lombard. "I kept saying, `Well, who cares what it looks like, we're trying to get the song out there.'" Cheesey or not the song, which can be seen and heard at www.youtube.com/profile?user=trixiegoeshollywood, seems to have struck a cord with the public, as in its few short weeks on YouTube, it has received more than 50,000 hits. This is not the first success Trixie Goes Hollywood has unleashed on the world. Formed in 1979 the band quickly gained notoriety by winning Q-107's first Home Grown Contest in 1980 for its hit song Personality. Trixie Goes Hollywood's whirlwind tours of Ontario and Quebec's club and university circuits drew huge crowds to the point where problems started to develop for some See Band page 31 FITNESS LIQUIDATION SALE Tunturi T10 2HP continuous duty motor Lifetime motor warranty Reg. price NOW ONLY SportsArt 1200 2HP continuous duty motor NOW ONLY Tunturi T20 Club Quality 2.5" rollers Reg. price NOW ONLY Lifespan 2250 Heart rate interactive Fully programmable Reg. price NOW ONLY No Resonable Offer Refused Reg. price $1995 $895 $1595 $995 $2195 $1195 $2295 $1195 Horizon Elite 2.0 Magnetic resistance Heart rate display Reg. price NOW ONLY Horizon Elite 4.0 Eddy current resistance 6 programs Reg. price NOW ONLY SportsArt 1210 2.75 HP motor Heart rate interactive Reg. price NOW ONLY SportsArt 3108 3 HP motor Heart rate interactive Reg. price NOW ONLY Many Items Priced at Cost or Below $1395 $495 $1195 $695 $1995 $1295 $2995 $1995 All Items Must Be Sold Horizon Elite 2.0U Magnetic resistance Heart rate display Reg. price NOW ONLY Eurosport Spinner Magnetic resistance Heart rate display Reg. price NOW ONLY SportsArt 51U Magnetic resistance Heart rate display Reg. price NOW ONLY Excercise Balls Fully programmable Eddy current resistance Reg. price NOW ONLY $895 $395 $995 $545 $1495 $950 $31.90 $14.95 4 DAYS ONLY!
