After losing its opening game at the Brampton Blue Devils Classic AA basketball tournament, the Oakville major atom Vytis ran off three consecutive victories to earn gold. The Vytis clinched the title with a 60-51 win over Vaughn in the championship game, avenging a 41-38 loss to the Panthers in the teams' round-robin meeting. Oakville also posted wins over Mississauga (45-35) and Brampton (61-50) during the competition. Pacing the Vytis offence throughout the tournament were David Dobson, Scott Dawson, Brock Giedraitis, Evan Thompson, Stefan Duric and Dominic Jelovac. Anthony Druin, Perry Wyslobicky, Brandon Cyrus, Lance Bantoto, Thomas Evers and Jonny Houston contributed strong defensive play. Duric was named the tournament MVP. Coaches of the major atom Vytis are Jim Houston and Dave Thompson. The gold was the team's second tournament medal of the season, following a bronze effort three months ago in Waterloo.
